Cones and High-Speed Rail educates children on HS2
The Cones Team have done it again! Working with Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial and BAM, a new Cones book has just been published, which tells children about the building of a section of HS2 around the Chipping Warden area.
Two years in the making, Cones and High-Speed Rail highlights the importance of safety, wellbeing, environment and belonging in the construction industry.
Children from Chipping Warden Primary School attended the launch and were treated to cakes and juice before listening to the story read by author Chris Madeley. The children, dressed in PPE jackets and hats, were then taken on a Site Safari where they could follow the adventures of the Cones and actually see, and experience facets featured in the books.
Author Chris Madeley, commented: “It has been an absolute privilege and pleasure to write this book, working with great people from international companies, and to find out what is really happening in the construction of this amazing new railway and the care they are taking to preserve the environment.
“We’re now focusing on planning to get the books out to schools and other venues, with a number of exciting activities planned for September and beyond.”
Paddy Patterson, Employment & Education Manager at Eiffage Kier Ferrovial BAM, commented: “Delighted to have launched ‘Cones and High Speed Rail’ at our Eiffage Kier Ferrovial BAM Chipping Warden Green Tunnel site last week with Keith Madeley MBE, the book’s author Chris Madeley, and the fantastic children from Chipping Warden Primary School.
“Two years in the making and so pleased to be able to share this fantastic book which highlights the importance of safety, wellbeing, environment and belonging in the construction industry. Massive thanks to Hannah Victoria Jones, Heather King, Haidee Williams, and Dewet Du Plessis for their work on the book and the launch, what a great job you did.”
As well as an exclusive reading from Chris, the children were taken on a SiteSafari where they could follow in the adventures of the Cones and see many of the things featured in the books.
Keith Madeley, commented: “What a delightful experience to join you all for the launch of Cones And High Speed Rail on site at Chipping Warden together with the children from the Primary School. This is the 17th Cones Children’s Educational Book and one of the most exciting launches. Great to have worked with these exceptional companies Eiffage Kier Ferrovial BAM and to have HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd at the launch.”
