SRL Traffic Systems Unveils Game-Changing Solihull Hub and REMOS™ Innovation

SRL Traffic Systems, a leading European manufacturer and supplier of mobile intelligent transport system (ITS) solutions, has unveiled its largest facility to date—a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose hub in Solihull.

This strategic move is set to enhance service efficiency and introduce the innovative REMOS™ remotely operated signal operation.

A New Era in Traffic Management

Spanning nearly 30,000 square feet, the new centre, which opened in early February 2025, is strategically located within Birmingham Business Park. Its proximity to the M42 motorway, Birmingham Airport, and the NEC positions it as a central node for operations.

The Solihull hub serves as the launchpad for REMOS™, one of the first scalable remotely operated temporary signal solutions. Following successful trials, REMOS™ is initially available for projects within a 1.5-hour radius of the facility, with plans for a nationwide rollout.

Revolutionising Road Safety and Efficiency

REMOS™ integrates portable traffic signal heads equipped with built-in CCTV cameras and remote traffic management control boxes (RTMC). These components live-stream data to the REMOS™ Control Centre within the new building, facilitating remote management.

This design allows traffic management organisations to reduce the number of personnel stationed on-site in live traffic lanes, thereby enhancing road worker safety. By minimising labour costs and reducing carbon emissions associated with operative transport, REMOS™ offers a comprehensive solution. A single operator can manage multiple sites, efficiently monitoring traffic and making interventions to optimise flow.

Commitment to Training and Development

The Solihull depot also houses SRL’s first national training centre.

This facility underscores the company’s commitment to the ongoing development of its staff, ensuring the delivery of cutting-edge mobile ITS solutions to customers throughout the UK and Ireland.

Expansive ITS Portfolio

SRL’s comprehensive ITS portfolio includes:

  • Traffic and pedestrian signals
  • The multi-directional signal solution Urban64®
  • Variable message signs (VMS)
  • CCTV
  • Work-zone protection barriers
  • Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) systems
  • The Haul Route PLUS® crossing solution

Notably, SRL is the UK and Ireland’s only ITS manufacturer available to customers on-site 24/7, 365 days a year.

Leadership Perspective

Mark Eburne, SRL’s Chief Executive Officer, remarked: “The new Solihull centre marks an exciting start to 2025 for SRL and will enable us to provide our customers with increasingly efficient service and accessible training, as well as hosting the new REMOS™ operation. Featuring a wide range of amenities, the new facility will also provide our team with a great working environment.”

Industry Implications

The launch of the Solihull hub and the introduction of REMOS™ signify SRL’s dedication to innovation in traffic management. By leveraging technology to enhance safety, efficiency, and environmental sustainability, SRL is setting new benchmarks in the industry.

As the company continues to expand its capabilities, stakeholders can anticipate further advancements that will shape the future of traffic management across the UK and Ireland.

A Positive Outlook

With the inauguration of the Solihull facility and the rollout of REMOS™, SRL Traffic Systems is poised to lead the way in modernising traffic management. Their commitment to safety, efficiency, and sustainability heralds a promising future for the industry.
