Leading innovator and manufacturer of site safety equipment Oxford Plastics has launched its latest product, the DropBlock.

The new weighted product has been designed to be a robust and sustainable solution to sandbags, along with being compatible with pedestrian barriers, fencing and signage.

DropBlock took nine months to be developed and stringently tested by the Oxford Plastics team. It features easy carry handles, is weighted at 9kg, made of tough recyclable plastic, is stackable for ease of transport and storage, along with being fully recyclable at end of life.

The product is also wind resistant, calculated at British Standard 8442.

It has been designed to be used for construction sites and events, and can be used as street works standards.

Oxford Plastics chairman and technical director Chris Whiteley, said the DropBlock was a great solution and alternative to using sandbags.

He said: “Sandbags are not only short life products, but they can deteriorate quickly and become messy in situ.  They also aren’t consistent in their weight, so it’s not possible to always know how many to use to provide the correct amount of ballast weight.

“We wanted to come up with a solution which meant it was robust as well as being easy to store and handle, and we believe the DropBlock is the perfect solution.

“What was also very important to us as a company was that we looked at the material it was made out of, which is recycled plastic, as we believe that this is something many companies are careful to also track their carbon footprint.”
