Liebherr Geared Up for a Game-Changing Showcase at bauma

bauma 2025 is more than just another trade show—it’s where the future of construction and mining takes centre stage. Taking place in Munich, this flagship event sees Liebherr stepping into the spotlight as a trailblazer in engineering, automation, and sustainability. With the theme “Hands on the Future”, the company is demonstrating how innovation and real-world practicality can go hand-in-hand.

Spanning over 15,000 m² of exhibition space—that’s more than two football pitches—Liebherr’s colossal presence features 100+ machines, ground-breaking tech, and fully immersive pavilions. From a fully autonomous mining truck to hydrogen-powered wheel loaders, visitors are witnessing engineering that goes beyond prototypes and straight into working reality.

“We are actively shaping the future of the construction site by creating solutions that offer sustainable added value for our customers,” said Stephen Albrecht, Managing Director Technology and Digitalisation of Liebherr-International AG.

When Innovation Takes the Wheel

Nothing beats seeing heavy-duty machinery in action, and Liebherr’s outdoor arena, aptly dubbed Liebherr Square, is exactly that with their battery-electric and autonomous T 264 mining truck. Packing a payload of 240 tonnes, it boasts zero emissions and continuous operational capacity thanks to both static and dynamic charging capabilities. The truck taps into a lateral power rail mid-motion—so no downtime, just nonstop performance.

Then there’s the electric R 9400 E mining excavator. This 350-tonne beast runs on mains electricity or battery power, and you’ll see its shovelling power first-hand at the show. Worth noting: the power for the demos is entirely sourced from renewables. That’s not just sustainability talk—that’s action.

Over in the earthmoving zone, there is a live display of autonomous machines, including the L 550 XPower wheel loader, PR 726 crawler dozer, and R 926 crawler excavator. Each can be operated remotely from the InnovationLab using Liebherr Remote Control, making them perfect for hazardous environments.

World Premieres and Product Milestones

Liebherr didn’t come to bauma empty-handed. Among the big premieres:

  • T 38-7s Telescopic Handler: A next-gen machine with increased load capacity and advanced assistance features.
  • Battery-Electric Excavators (R 920 G8-E & A 918 E): Designed for urban and confined-space construction, offering zero emissions and lower operating costs.
  • L 566 H Hydrogen Wheel Loader: Developed with STRABAG and currently undergoing field trials with green hydrogen refuelling.
  • LTM 1150-5.4 E Mobile Crane: Features a 111 kW electric motor and an integrated battery pack enabling four hours of standalone operation.
  • LR 1300.2 SX Unplugged Crawler Crane: Battery-powered and designed for high-rise and deep foundation work.
  • Fast-Erecting Cranes (43 K, 61 K, 91 K): Integrated with intelligent systems like ‘Vertical Line Finder’ and ‘Guided Hook’.

Don’t miss the Mobilmix 4.0, Liebherr’s latest modular concrete mixing plant that improves power efficiency by up to 30% and offers a high degree of configuration flexibility.

Powering Smarter Construction Sites

Digitalisation is no longer just a buzzword—it’s a competitive necessity. Liebherr is banking on intelligent systems, automation, and machine networking to revolutionise site operations.

  • Autonomy: Machines like dozers and excavators don’t just move; they learn. Using AI, they refine routes, adjust digging angles, and conserve energy on the fly.
  • Networking: With Liebherr Connect, users get access to deep diagnostics, asset management, and performance analytics across fleets.
  • Remote Control: Liebherr Remote Control (LiReCon) lets operators manage multiple machines from a single control desk—even across different product categories.

It’s not science fiction. It’s Liebherr’s blueprint for the future.

Green Goals and Climate Commitments

Liebherr is walking the talk when it comes to sustainability. From electric cranes to hydrogen-powered loaders and modular energy storage, their approach is nothing short of holistic.

  • Drive Technologies: From HVO-compatible engines to battery-electric and hydrogen variants, Liebherr offers a tailored energy solution for every project type.
  • Ammonia Engines: Still in prototype phase, but a strong signal of the company’s commitment to cleaner combustion alternatives.
  • Liduro Power Port (LPO): Mobile and stationary versions of this storage solution allow zero-emission energy supply even in remote areas.

The cherry on top? The LG 1800-1.0, Liebherr’s biggest exhibit at bauma, designed specifically for wind farm construction and fully road legal worldwide.

Partnerships That Pack a Punch

What stands out most is how Liebherr isn’t going it alone, collaboration is the name of the game.

  • With Fortescue: Working together to deploy 475 autonomous and emissions-free mining machines across Australia.
  • With STRABAG & Maximator Hydrogen: Developing infrastructure for mobile hydrogen refuelling stations on job sites.

These aren’t speculative ventures. They’re multi-million euro commitments to turning climate-friendly construction into a real-world standard.
