FLIR introduces AI controlled Traffic Cameras for Predictive Traffic Management

FLIR Systems has introduced two new intelligent traffic system cameras – the FLIR ThermiCam™ AI with thermal imaging and the FLIR TrafiCam™ AI visible camera.

Both camera systems feature artificial intelligence to optimize the traffic flows from roadways and intersections. When the data is combined with the FLIR Acyclica™ cloud platform, smart cities can apply the intelligent camera data twenty-four hours a day, to predict traffic, prevent congestion, reduce potential accidents, and create much safer roads for both drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.

“FLIR traffic systems are currently installed in 75 countries, and with the addition of ThermiCam AI and TrafiCam AI, FLIR now offers a fully integrated solution that enables traffic engineers and city planners to apply AI-based learnings to continuously optimize traffic flow,” said Rickard Lindvall, General Manager, Solutions Business, FLIR Systems. “The integrated solution enables cities to improve urban roadway design to make cities safer and more liveable.”

Artificial Intelligence

Using real-time data capture and Artificial Intelligence processing, the dynamic cameras will assist smarter traffic control options for traffic signal controllers at intersections to improve traffic flow and increase safety in the moment with predictive traffic management.

Thermal Imaging

Combined with the ability to capture heat imaging data through a thermal sensor within the ThermiCam AI, and a visible low-light, high-definition sensor within the TrafiCam AI, Smart Cities traffic signals can have complete and continuous monitoring, in all weather conditions, and even through smoke in tunnel monitoring situations.

Connectivity

The cameras also feature Wi-Fi, for travel-time calculations, and for other origin-destination applications.

In the future, the FLIR cameras will be able to be retrofitted with 5G cellular antennas to support vehicle-to-everything (V2X) connectivity, to further improve road safety.

Acyclica Cloud Platform

The FLIR Acyclica cloud platform delivers the tools and analytics capabilities needed to make sense of traffic data. When the ThermiCam AI and TrafiCam AI are paired with the FLIR Acyclica cloud platform, Smart Cities can apply real Artificial Intelligence based insights to real-time data to make predictive traffic pattern changes. The result creates more efficient and safer cities.
