The Construction Cost Estimating and Cost Control course provides a practical and structured deep dive into one of the most commercially critical aspects of construction management: accurately predicting and managing project costs.
Delivered by Columbia University’s Dr Ibrahim Odeh, the course guides learners through the full spectrum of cost estimation, from early conceptual design through to detailed project execution, while also emphasising the importance of cost control and cash flow monitoring throughout the lifecycle. Participants are introduced to key techniques such as quantity take-offs, pricing, and break-even analysis, alongside industry-standard methodologies like Earned Value Management (EVM), enabling them to measure performance and keep projects financially on track.
Designed as a beginner-friendly, self-paced programme that can typically be completed within one to three months, the course also explores project closeout processes, including punch lists, approvals, and client handover, ensuring learners understand the full financial journey of a construction project. By combining theoretical foundations with real-world applications, it equips professionals with the essential tools to produce reliable estimates, manage financial risk, and support better decision-making in an industry where margins are tight and accuracy is everything.
