Bangladesh High Capacity Railway Project promoted by DP Rail Ltd.
A joint venture team consisting of Rendel Consultancy and OTB Engineering in association with HR Wallingford, Railway Engineering Associated and BCL Associates are to provide the engineering services for a 240km freight railway planned for Bangladesh.
The team was appointed by the British company DP Rail who signed a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Bangladesh and Bangladesh Railway last month.
DP Rail will design, finance, build, operate and maintain the rail link between Dhaka and Payra Port on a Foreign Direct Investment basis. It is the largest Foreign Direct Investment project deal yet for Bangladesh.
The implementation studies carried out by the Rendel/OTB joint venture will start this month and will take 18 months, and will finalise the route alignment and design criteria as well as the costs of building the railway, leading up to production of design and build documents.
