Spanish Expertise enabling three Transport PPP Projects in Bangladesh
The Bangladesh Bridge Authority has reached out to Spain for assistance with three significant transport projects under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
This collaboration seeks to leverage Spain’s expertise in feasibility studies, engineering designs, and consultancy services to enhance Bangladesh’s infrastructure.
Dhaka Subway Route 0: A New Underground Lifeline
Project Overview:
- Length: 29.26 km
- Stations: 27
- Route: Tongi-Jhilmil
The ambitious Dhaka Subway Route 0 will feature 27 stations, enhancing connectivity across the city. The stations include major hubs such as Tongi Junction, Uttara Sector-10, Mohakhali, Gulistan, and Sadarghat.
This subway line is expected to revolutionize urban transit by providing a swift, efficient underground travel option for Dhaka’s residents.
Dhaka East-West Elevated Expressway: Streamlining Regional Travel
Project Overview:
- Length: 39.23 km
- Connections: Hemayetpur (N5), Dhaka-Mawa Highway (N8), Langalbandh (N1)
The Dhaka East-West Elevated Expressway aims to connect key highways and facilitate smoother transit across the city and its outskirts.
By linking Hemayetpur on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway, Dhaka-Mawa Highway, and the Langalbandh intersection on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, this expressway will allow vehicles from eastern, southwestern, and northwestern districts to bypass central Dhaka.
This project is integral to reducing congestion and improving travel efficiency.
Enhancing Bilateral Collaboration with Spain
The Bangladesh Bridge Authority is collaborating with the Spanish firm Technica Y Proyectos SA to develop comprehensive plans for these projects. The scope of work includes:
- Financing Preparatory Studies: Identifying project feasibility and potential impacts.
- Technical Assistance: Providing expertise in engineering and design.
- Detailed Engineering Designs: Crafting precise project blueprints.
This partnership aims to promote Spanish exports while fostering closer bilateral ties between Madrid and Dhaka.
The involvement of Spanish expertise is anticipated to bring high standards of engineering and efficiency to Bangladesh’s infrastructure projects.
Danga Bazar Bridge: Connecting Communities
In addition to the subway and expressway projects, the Bangladesh government is also planning a survey to construct the Danga Bazar Bridge over the river.
This bridge is expected to improve local connectivity and support regional development.
Leveraging Spanish Expertise
The collaboration between Bangladesh and Spain marks a significant step towards modernizing Bangladesh’s transport infrastructure. By leveraging Spanish expertise in engineering and design, these projects promise to enhance connectivity, reduce congestion, and promote economic growth.
This bilateral cooperation underscores the commitment of both nations to fostering development through innovative infrastructure solutions.
