STRABAG starts €167m construction of 20km section of M85 expressway in Hungary

The European construction group STRABAG SE has started work on the 20.5 km long section of the M85 expressway between Csorna and Sopron in Hungary.

The contract has a value of HUF 51.9 billion, which corresponds to about € 167 million. The section is scheduled for completion after a period of 36 months.

The new extension of the M85 expressway between Csorna and Sopron covers four separate sections. The stretch between Csorna and Fertőd-Endrédmajor is being built by STR-B M85, a consortium made up of one Austrian and one Hungarian STRABAG subsidiary together with Belfry PE Kft. The works comprise two lanes in each direction as well as 18 bridges.

“The further expansion of the M85 will shorten the travel time between Győr and Sopron. We are pleased to be able to follow up the works on the Csorna bypass last year by participating in this new project,” says Thomas Birtel, CEO of STRABAG.

STRABAG SE is a European-based technology group for construction services, a leader in innovation and financial strength. Their services span all areas of the construction industry and cover the entire construction value chain and create added value for their clients with specialised entities integrating the most diverse services and assuming responsibility for them. STRABAG brings together people, materials and machinery at the right place and at the right time in order to realise even the most complex of construction projects – on schedule, of the highest quality and at the best price. The hard work and dedication of nearly 73,000 employees allow them to generate an annual output volume of more than €14 billion. At the same time, a dense network of numerous subsidiaries in many European countries and, increasingly, on other continents is helping to expand their area of operation far beyond the borders of Austria and Germany.

The STRABAG Group has now been operating in Hungary since 1989. In 2017, the 2,700 STRABAG employees in the country generated an output volume of about €550 million. More information about the company’s activities in Hungary is available at www.strabag.hu.
