According to the United Nations, over 450 million individuals are employed in supply chain, logistics, and transportation roles worldwide, accounting for nearly 13% of the global workforce. CILT was founded on November 3rd, 1919, at the illustrious Savoy Hotel in London. In the wake of the First World War, a group of senior transport professionals recognised the failures in logistics and the movement of goods during that tumultuous period. Determined to improve these systems, they established a professional body focused on promoting and coordinating the study of logistics and transport across all sectors.
In 1926, CILT was awarded a Royal Charter, cementing its status as the leading professional institution for logistics and transport. Today, with over 30,000 members in more than 40 countries, CILT continues to represent the world’s logistics, transport, and supply chain professionals, fostering the knowledge and skills essential for navigating the complexities of modern commerce.
