One of the first privately owned companies founded in Romania for gas pipeline construction services has purchased a fleet of Hitachi Premium Used medium excavators to work on a project of national significance.

The 13 machines (all ZX250LC-6s) were delivered to CIS GAZ Srl on 22 April 2020 by Romania’s authorised Hitachi dealer Utirom Invest Srl (Utirom) and have been immediately put to work on the Romania to Republic of Moldova gas pipeline.

The highest standards

The Hitachi ZX250LC-6s will be involved in the construction of two gas pipelines (Onesti to Gheraesti and Gheraesti to Letcani) and two compression stations, which will provide a transport capacity of 1.5 billion cubic metres of gas per year between Romania and Moldova. Once completed, Moldova will be linked to the European energy system and step away from its near-total dependency on Russia for natural gas.

All manufactured in 2017 – and having each only worked 2-4,000 hours – the 13 machines were sold through the Hitachi Premium Used programme. This meant that, before delivery to CIS GAZ, the ZX250LC-6s underwent a rigorous inspection process by Utirom to ensure they met the high-quality standards of Hitachi Premium Used. The service was carried out using only Hitachi Genuine parts and lubricants, according to Hitachi specifications.

A perfect package

In addition, the maintenance records for all of the medium excavators were made available via Global e-Service, Hitachi’s remote monitoring system. This was advantageous, according to Utirom’s Sales Manager Alexandru Moise: “The ability to display a transparent maintenance history was a significant benefit of the Hitachi Premium Used programme to CIS GAZ.

“There is great interest in Eastern Europe for used equipment, but companies such as CIS GAZ still demand durability, versatility and rapid servicing from the machines they purchase. The 13 ZX250LC-6s were the ideal fit, because we were able to highlight their reliability, and supply cost-effective ‘like-new’ machines with approved warranties. Such a package is greatly valued by our customers.”

An ideal match

CIS GAZ was highly satisfied with the purchase, as a senior spokesperson for the company noted: “We were looking for used equipment to help us complete a challenging section of gas pipeline project, and spoke to Utirom about our options. They made a full assessment of our needs and proposed the Hitachi ZX250LC-6s.

“Hitachi is a well-known brand in Romania – and compared to new excavators – the ZX250LC-6s were just as good. Therefore, we had no hesitation in selecting these impressive machines. We needed the best equipment we could find in order to work efficiently and Hitachi Premium Used was undoubtedly the most ideal option for us.”
