Sweco to supervise the renovation of the Belliard and Loi tunnels in Brussels
The consortium of Sweco and BG Ingénieurs Conseils has been appointed by Brussels Mobility for the design and supervision of the large-scale renovation of the Belliard and Loi tunnels. The order value is SEK 56 million (€5.3 million).
The tunnels, located in the heart of the Belgian capital, are being modernized with special attention to safety, design and sustainability.
The consortium led by Sweco will assist the customer with detailed design, preparation of technical specifications, procurement support and supervision of the renovation.
“This is a complex tunnel project, close to major European and Belgian institutions. Since both tunnels are connected to other underground infrastructure, well thought-out mobility planning and phasing of the renovations is essential to limit disruption. Sweco and BG are internationally renowned for specialized tunnel expertise, which will be beneficial to Brussels’ infrastructure projects”, advises Erwin Malcorps, Managing Director Sweco Belgium.
Brussels Mobility has previously drawn up a multi-year investment program, which includes the renovation of the Belliard and Loi tunnels. The Belliard tunnel handles about 37,000 vehicles and the Loi tunnel about 25,000 vehicles, on a daily basis.
Sweco plans and designs tomorrow’s communities and cities. Their work produces sustainable buildings, efficient infrastructure and access to electricity and clean water.
