Namibia’s Northern regions allocated US$39.1 million for road rehabilitation

Namibia’s Roads Authority (RA) has allocated a massive US$39.1 million for road rehabilitation in the regions of Oshana, Ohangwena, and Oshikoto, as well as the two Kavango regions.

The programme has already started in the Oshana Region and later will be rolled out to other regions.

Currently, rehabilitation projects are underway in the region including:

  • Rehabilitation of the Oshakati and Oshikuku road where the roads’ lifespan will be raised to at least eight years.
  • Extensive progress has been made on the Okatana to Endola to Onhuno road and this project is now in the final stages.
  • The Omungwelume Road was recently completed.
  • The Oshakati to Outapi road is under construction.
  • The Oshakati to Okahao road is under construction.
  • Another road construction project making progress is the gravel road connecting Uukwiyu-Uushona to Omuntele Constituency.
  • Construction of the about 4 km dual carriageway between Okatan and Oshakati is in the pipeline, which will help to ease traffic congestion on that route.

The Roads Authority has given priority to the construction of roads leading to schools and clinics in the region.
