Gilbarco Veeder-Root driving hydrogen refuelling solutions with PDC Machines
Gilbarco Veeder-Root today announces a strategic technology partnership with PDC Machines, to bring best-in-class hydrogen refuelling solutions to market.
Their strategic mission is to become a pioneer in enabling future hydrogen-powered transportation. It is making available a suite of compression, dispensing, and software solutions as part of its end-to-end hydrogen refuelling infrastructure, designed to accelerate the build out of a network of renewable or low-carbon hydrogen refuelling stations around the world. A key part of the solution is the hydrogen compressor that is a necessary component in the delivery of hydrogen at public and private refuelling locations.
Gilbarco Veeder-Root was founded over 150 years ago and has considerable expertise in designing, manufacturing, installing, and servicing refuelling infrastructure around the world. Its dedicated compressed gases division, ANGI Energy Systems (a wholly owned subsidiary of Gilbarco Veeder-Root), in Wisconsin, United States, brings 30 years of experience in the design and manufacture of full-site solutions for compressed gases for clients worldwide.
As part of the new packaging agreement, PDC Machines will supply its world leading hydrogen diaphragm compressor block to Gilbarco Veeder-Root, where ANGI Energy Systems will incorporate its world-class packaging experience, along with Gilbarco Veeder Root’s industry leading dispensing capabilities, to offer a best-in-class refuelling solution for the hydrogen transportation sector.
Joel van Rensburg, General Manager of Hydrogen, Gilbarco Veeder-Root, said: “The hydrogen revolution is on the horizon and Gilbarco Veeder-Root is putting in place a number of strategic partnerships to ensure we can deliver on our vision of a low-carbon, zero emission future and our customers are ready and equipped with the state-of-the-art technology needed to meet the evolving consumer demand.
“Our partnership with PDC Machines will enable us to utilise the world’s best hydrogen compressors in our state-of-the-art refuelling infrastructure, ensuring the very best service and delivery to our customers.”
Kareem Afzal, Chief Executive Officer of PDC Machines, said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Gilbarco Veeder-Root and support its vision for a network of renewable or low-carbon hydrogen refuelling stations across the United States and Europe. At PDC our vision is to drive hydrogen forward. Our advanced hydrogen compression technology, coupled with Gilbarco Veeder-Root’s unrivalled experience in compressed gases and dispensing, will create a reliable, robust, and cost-effective hydrogen refuelling solution.”
The new additions to Gilbarco Veeder-Root’s hardware portfolio have been carefully selected to meet the needs of customers in this fast-paced, changing marketplace. The new ultra-safe hydrogen technology complements Gilbarco Veeder Root’s core competencies in cutting edge forecourt dispensing hardware, renowned customer service, and resilient supply infrastructure.
Gilbarco Veeder Root’s decision to expand its alternative fuels portfolio is a result of its commitment to its customers to provide hardware and software solutions that are best-in-class and can be tailored to their customers’ specific and evolving business and market needs.

Hydrogen, as a fuel, is well suited to fleets of heavy-duty vehicles due to their weight and duty cycles. Hydrogen fuel cell trucks and buses are currently being developed by most of the leading global truck manufacturers and it is predicted that 15% of the heavy-duty fleets will be hydrogen powered by 2030.
