Kapsch TrafficCom Accelerates Serbia’s Smart Mobility with Four New Toll Plazas
Kapsch TrafficCom has reached another major milestone in Serbia’s transport modernisation drive with the opening of four new toll plazas along the Moravski Corridor. The development signals a leap forward in the country’s infrastructure ambitions, with the corridor forming a critical link in the Balkan transport network.
Stretching 112.4 kilometres, the Moravski Corridor connects Serbia’s east-west axis and integrates with the north-south corridor stretching between Hungary and North Macedonia. The motorway not only ties together the A1 and A2 highways but also strengthens access between Belgrade and the Zlatibor mountain region, one of Serbia’s most popular tourist destinations. By improving logistics and passenger mobility, the corridor is expected to enhance economic development across the nation’s heartland.
A Strategic Step in Serbia’s Road Modernisation Plan
The Moravski Corridor is more than a stretch of tarmac—it’s a symbol of Serbia’s growing commitment to sustainable mobility and regional connectivity. The latest tolling developments, spearheaded by Kapsch TrafficCom, are designed to streamline travel, enhance traffic management, and reduce congestion.
Ivan Katalina, Sales Manager Balkans for Kapsch TrafficCom, commented: “The implementation of the tolling systems is proceeding smoothly and on schedule. The deciding factors are our local expertise coupled with the international and know-how from global teams, which allow us to react quickly and comprehensively to any requests.”
His remarks underline the strategic collaboration between local insight and international technology expertise, a hallmark of Kapsch’s global success.

Intelligent Systems for a Smarter Serbia
The four toll plazas are powered by Kapsch’s SmartTOLL technology—a highly advanced tolling system designed for seamless, efficient operations. SmartTOLL combines high-speed data processing, automatic vehicle classification, and integrated analytics to provide real-time monitoring and control.
This new system forms part of a larger Kapsch TrafficCom project encompassing 150 contracted lanes, of which 120 are scheduled for completion by the end of 2025. In total, Kapsch will equip 16 toll plazas across Serbia with this technology. At the Prilipac toll plaza alone, more than 16,000 vehicles are processed daily—a figure that highlights the scale of the project’s impact.
By leveraging intelligent tolling infrastructure, Kapsch is helping Serbia build a more connected, efficient, and sustainable transport network capable of handling increasing traffic demands without sacrificing safety or speed.
The Broader Balkan Transport Vision
The Moravski Corridor plays a vital role in unifying the region’s transport grid. Serving as a bridge between Central Europe and the Balkans, the motorway improves freight routes linking Hungary, Serbia, and North Macedonia, thereby strengthening economic and cultural ties.
Serbia’s government has identified transport modernisation as a cornerstone of national growth. With major corridors like this one under development, the country is positioning itself as a regional logistics hub and a vital link in Europe’s expanding east-west trade routes. The completion of modern toll infrastructure will not only reduce travel times but also enhance safety and improve toll revenue collection efficiency.
