The environmental benefits that could be achieved by avoiding the frequency of using Diesel powered HGV Drain cleaning Trucks and the additional air pollution created by their pumps and vacuum suction facilities are vast. Unsurprisingly, these jetting systems contribute significantly to both Air and Noise pollution and are among the most environmentally damaging of any vehicles used on our roads.

However, less obvious perhaps is the physical damage to our road infrastructure, associated footpaths and verges, and even the damage caused to the drains and sewers when the pressurised water results in seemingly minor defects becoming major points of failure, with drain sewer collapses being a recognised consequence. How advantageous would it be to no longer need to use our valuable mains water supply to clean sewers, saving the millions of gallons wasted needlessly annually.

The removal and subsequent transportation of sediment and more hazardous substances such as Oils and Fats (FOG) to specially licenced and costly tipping sites, which in many cases are many miles away, add further to the cost and environmental impact of these outdated and unsustainable cleansing techniques. Sewer Jetting is normally a reactive service, as the cost of programmed preventative cleaning is often considered to be prohibitively high, even by the Water Utilities themselves, who only perform programmed cleansing in exceptional circumstances.

An efficient and cost-effective alternate solution is now available to deal with a wide range of problems, without the need to mobilise highly damaging HGV vehicles, and with the ability to reduce the frequency of all future maintenance visits, irrespective of the vehicle type used. Flusher2 is an easy to install automatic catchment cleansing and blockage prevention tool that can be installed in minutes to virtually any drain or sewer pipes, keeping the system flowing and problem free.

Installed within manhole chambers for ease of installation, these simple yet ingenious devices allow access for periodic maintenance, which typically involves nothing more than a wash down, which in many cases can be performed effectively from ground level. As and when problems occur, these will be performed in future purely from the manhole, with no requirement to mobilise heavy damaging equipment along a pipe or sewer structure.

Flusher2 operates using an age old and proven system of cleansing. A process similar to the way we flush a WC, but instead of discharging a few litres of mains water which is released manually, instead Flusher2 delivers a significant volume of sewerage effluent automatically, cleaning both in front and behind each installed flushing valve. The simple genius of Flusher2 is achieved by harnessing the potential energy within the effluent already present within the pipe to generate enhanced hydraulic flush cleaning energy. This enhanced flushing action keeps repeating permanently cleaning pipework with absolutely no power requirement, eliminating jetting and the resulting adverse environmental impacts, with no carbon footprint!

This flushing action also removes sedimentation, residual Grease, Oils and Fats (FOG), and occasional harmful items such as wipes and sanitary products, which as we all know should be discharged within the appropriate waste bins provided and not be dropped into the toilet.

The combination of Flusher2, with properly maintained Fat Traps, and the effective use of waste disposal bins, combined with clear and effective education and clearly visible advisory notices, deliver the most effective holistic solution. Flusher2 has the potential to keep Hotels, Food Service establishments, and Retail and Commercial sites and may other problem Hotspots operational and unaffected by drain blockages or flooding resulting from inadequate preventative maintenance.

Flusher2 cleansing, unlike jetting, mobilises sedimentation and offending waste products over significant distances. Once it reaches hydraulically efficient parts of the public sewer network where flow levels and a self-cleansing velocity exist, then these substances are harmlessly transported to Sewage Treatment Plants without the need for further intervention. Modern Sewage Treatment Works are now equipped to abstract waste without the impact to the environment outlined previously. More importantly, Water Utilities now use and recycle the resulting sludge and FOGs for the purpose of generating both heat and power. This reduces the cost and environmental impact of the Water Utilities own sewage treatment operations, making this a great example of a “Circular Economy” in action.

The potential cost saving compared with programmed cleansing using pressurised high pressure water jetting is significant. Reducing the risk of property flooding or pollution occurrences and the resulting cost of fines and remediation. This would also reduce the effects of business interruption and the distress and inconvenience suffered by so many, making the investment in new technology and change to a sustainable preventative maintenance option a simple decision to make.

Flusher2 is already being used for enhancing performance within hydraulically inefficient areas of the Public Sewer network, so the use of Flusher2 in private drains and sewers also make sense.

With sustainable and environmental challenges now at the forefront, Water Utilities who experience recurrent blockages, flooding, and CSO spills and pollution events, and areas where currently scheduled maintenance, should take advantages that Flusher2 has to offer to prevent what would otherwise result in significant problem.
