The Italian Ministry for Infrastructure and Transport awarded SIS consortium (51% Fininc and 49% Sacyr) a railway development contract in Catania (Sicily).

This Metropolitana Circumetnea-led project includes the design and development of a 10.6 km section running between Misterbianco station and Ardizzone tunnel, with an investment close to €532 million.

A second unit framed within the global overall contract includes an additional 900-meter section from Ardizzone tunnel to Paternò station and a train shed, raising €113 million to the investment amount.

In total, the project has a 11.5 km total length, with an investment that might go up to €645 million.

The awarded railway line starts in Ardizzone, after the Nesima-Misterbianco section, and ends to the north of Paterno, where the Paternò-Adrano section starts. The line comprises four underground sections and four open air sections; including five stations: Giaconia, Belpasso, Valcorrente, Gullotta and Paternò and two train sheds, one in Belpasso and other in Ardizzone, located mid-route and at the end of the route respectively.
