Galliford Try awarded £24m contract for new M49 junction at Avonmouth, UK
The design and build scheme will feature a new grade separated junction with a roundabout spanning the motorway which will incorporate a new and existing bridge (pictured) together with access and slip roads on both sides of the junction. The project will reduce delays and congestion in the surrounding roads and improve access to the port of Avonmouth and the Avonmouth Severnside Enterprise Area to the west of Bristol, contributing to the economic growth of the region.
Design starts immediately with site clearance and preparation under way from this month and full construction anticipated from next June. Completion is set for October 2019. The contract has been awarded under the Collaborative Development Framework to which Galliford Try was appointed three years ago.

Managing Director of the Highways business unit of Galliford Try’s Infrastructure division. “We have considerable experience of motorway work from our participation in the Smart motorways programme and we will be able to bring this to bear on the Avonmouth junction scheme.”
Galliford Try has also been awarded a £9m contract by Derby City Council to carry out the A52 Wyvern Transport Improvements scheme in the city. A stretch of the A52 Brian Clough Way and adjacent Wyvern Way which serves a retail park will be widened to three- and two-lane carriageways respectively. Other elements include a new pedestrian footbridge and signalisation of three junctions. The improvements will help to reduce congestion in the Pride Park area and support wider economic growth. Work starts immediately and is due for full completion by February 2019.

The contract was awarded under the Midlands Highways Alliance framework.
